(11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) In Canada in 1931, Parliament adopted an Act to provide that the day should be observed on November 11 and that the day should be known as “Remembrance Day”. All service members are honored but those who have died in service are especially remembered on this day in Canada. Everyone stops for a moment of silence at 11 am. In the US, while those who have died in their service to the nation can be remembered on Veterans Day, it’s largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty.
